EXAMPLE OF NARRATIVE TEXT

Teacher Prajna and his four students

Once upon a time, there was a small village at the foot of the mountain called Kalingga. The village was famous for the fertility of the soil and the crops were abundant. Kalinga Villagers lived in peace under the wise leadership of Mr. Bhayangkara. He was much loved because of their versatility to teach people how to grow crops and also the ability to trade so that they could sell their harvest to the neighbouring village.
There was physician living in that village named teacher Prajna who was known for his ability to treat any diseases suffered by the villagers using materials  from his own garden. He had a big thick book contained herbal prescriptions of medicine for every type of illness. It has been passed down from generation to generation. Prajna was assisted by four students. The first called Yoga he was less rigorous but had a strong power, so he was asked  to help him to plant the herbs in the garden. Attara a second student was very patient and, so he was assigned to practice how to cultivate crops to be ingredients. The third  named Veda he was very smart, so he helped to measure the dosage of each herb. The last  Atmana was very talkactive and friendly to everyone, so he was asked to explain to the patients how to use or drink the medicines. It was very important to make every patient know how to use  the correct the herbal medicines. The four students were practicing diligently so that in future when they could replace their teacher Prajna.
Day after day passed, many people came to get treatment for their illness, As usual Atmana explained how to use the right medicine.
Suddenly there was a patient who interrupted." Ahhh we get bored of listening your explanation! Why don’t you just give us medicine?”
“Yes,you’re right! you should give treatment like Ankara, he only give us medicine, we drink it and we recover, that’s all!”said another patient.
“yes, please don’t make us dizzy with your complicated explanations, said the other.
A few days later Atmana finally knew who the physician claimed could cure all diseases with magic treatment. Some people said that all illnesses could be directly recovered. They didn’t care about the way Ankara giving the treatment whether it was right or not and dangerous or not especially with the exact composition of medicine .Now Ankara was  more popular than Prajna. More and more people prefered going to Ankara’s house for treatment. And finally nobody came to Prajna’s house, something that had never previously happened.
One day Atmana  said to  the teacher Prajna, "Teacher now we are doing nothing because All villagers have moved to Ankara, Should we find another job? Yoga can accompany teacher for planting crops, while the three of us will go for our new jobs.
The teacher just smiled wisely and said "Of course, you can  but keep your promise after my death you stay together, work hand in hand to practice and use the skills you have learned and always give your hand to help everyone who need your help”.
They are all agreed and promised to keep their word.
A week later the teacher Prajna passed away. They felt very sad because he lost their beloved teacher. After the funeral, Attara found a letter on the table addressed to them.
Attara then read.  "My all students, I was getting older and approaching death. I hope you keep after me to continue what I did in giving treatment for the sikness,  you can use my prescription to help others, In providing drugs you should make a patient also understand what herbal prescription they  use. The key to a success so far is to start with the use of ingredients from good herbal material, and then appropriate processing, precise dosage and do not forget to give the knowledge to the patient to use the herbal medicine correctly. Well! Because of those reasons , the four of you should be together  to preserve what you have learned. Maybe now you don’t still know what I say but there is time later you will understand. Herewith, I have left my valuable possessions for the four of you "
Apparently Teacher Prajna has set up four pieces of  book , each book will be accepted by every student. But there were anomalies. The book they received was not in accordance with their skills. Yoga in charge of growing crops instead got a book about the process the drug. Veda a clever mix of drugs actually have a book how to explain the herbal medicine to the patients, it was usually done by Atmana. Attara actually got a book on how to plant crops although he used to serve to process drug. While Atmana  got a  book about how to mix ingredients. At first they were confused, but eventually they accepted the book given by the teacher who might have any reasons for giving the wrong books to them. However, all the four students were no longer  intention  to continue the teacher’s proffesion. They only will keep trying to remember what they have learned, but not to be their main activity. Yoga had planned to plant medicinal plants, merely carrying out his teacher's will. Atmana will trade. Attara and Veda planned to seek a job at a merchant ship. Four of them would try to start a new life that they desired.
After the death of teacher Prajna, Ankara automatically became more powerful   being the only healer in the village. He was aware of his existence  needed by the villagers, Ankara started having many requests for his treatment in return  the villagers began to protest, they objected to the expensive payment given to him compared to teacher Prajna, they only paid voluntarily, even poor people did not pay at all. Now villagers missed teacher prajna with his good treatment. Until one day, Lord Bhayangkara was ill and asked Ankara to cure him, but he asked many acres of land and a number of workers to cultivate the land. The Lord and the villagers who heard, of course refused it.
"Hai Ankara, your requests were too much" Said Lord Bhayangkara.
"Oh of course not,all according to something I give. You are healthy and recover quickly so the payment must be expensive, up to you, you want to be healthy or sick, the chosen is your! ha..ha..ha "Ankara said with a laugh
"OK We will never come here" Said the villagers.
"Ha...ha..ha..I don’t care!” Said Ankara.
Unfortunately the condition of Lord Bhayangkara was getting worse and worse although he had  medical treatment outside of the region. Villagers began to suspect that once a drug from Ankara made them become addictive. They never even knew what they're drinking all years and didn’t know how to make it. At the same time an outbreak of disease attacked the villagers. Almost villagers suffered from nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea not only adults but also children this condition made the parents sad. Villagers suspected that Ankara poisoned the local water sources. It was eventually killed five years old child who made all villagers so panic.
That condition was finally heard up to the ears of Yoga, one of the only student from teacher prajna who were still living around the village. Yoga tried to heal the sick villagers. During this time, yoga was still growing  medicinal herbs just for his own needs. Yoga did not waste any time, he came to Lord Bhayangkara. Lord and his guards immediately recognized him as the student of teacher Prajna. Lord asked yoga to cure him, But Yoga requested the Lord to look for three of his other friends, because they each had  skill of making herbal medicine with perfect results. Lord immediately commanded the guards and some villagers to seek them. It didn’t take a long time to find them, that four students met each other and and really were so surprised that they could meet again ,even having a chance to make the herbal medicine together. they felt the word said by their teacher  became true.
The four of them started working like what they were doing in the past when they got along with teacher Prajna. Any materials derived from Yoga’s garden, then Veda processed the ingredients, attara measured and mixed the ingredient and Atmana started giving encouragement and motivation so that they were eager to recover and took the drug regularly. Yet suddenly Veda felt something different with his herbal medicines.
"My friend, teacher prajna said that  all the ingredients must be made with good material and measured as precisely as possible to get good results.
"Could we miss something? may be at the making process".
"Is there anything different from what we have learned,? "Asked Veda
Yoga kept silent for a moment  finally he replied "I remember  the condition of the changing seasons, or perhaps differences of soil conditions  may  influent the growth of plantation.
"Oh I remember, may be that's the purpose of teacher giving each of us a book” said Attara
"Yes! the book contains teacher’s experiences in detail, there may be things  that can help us to make herbal medicine well
"Ah yes of course! He wanted us to stay together to practice what we have learned. The four of us is the unity that should help each other keeping the herbal prescription as ancestor heritage. We should  learn the books together so that we know each stage of the process of making herbal medicine. Each of us has important roles in processing herbal medicine in accordance with our skills" Atmana said with a smile.
Now they understood what their teacher expected and they promised to keep the heritage of making herbal medicine. The four students read the book carefully and discussed various things. As usual Yoga planted crops and prepared the soil . Attara  would processed ingredients, Veda was busy for measuring materials in right dosage. While Atmana would give explanation to villagers about how to use herbal medicine  as directed.
A few months later, the condition of the village  began normal. Parents worked as usual, the children were playing happily, all villagers returned to their daily activity. Lord Bhayangkara had recovered. The four friends occupied  their teacher’s house and its door was always open to anyone who needed  treatment. Now they had students, sometimes they taught the villagers how to make herbal medicine. They were willing to conserve the herbal medicine for the next generation and never let it become extinct.
Everyone seemed to be happy instead.  But,  wait a minute we, how was the fate of Ankara. Lord Bhayangkara immediately ordered Ankara to be arrested. He asked Ankara whether any outbreaks of illnesses suffered by the villagers because of him, and he had no reasons to deny. Some toxic materials found in his house. Ankara was expelled outside the village of Kalingga. In the end, times may change, science should be increased, all can be more quick and instant, but we must not forget there are some cultural heritage that we have to preserve by scientific research. That’s our responsibility to our country.
